Non-repainting indicators and TradingView backtests: what to verify

Official sources reviewed ·

“Non-repainting” describes calculation behavior; it does not establish a profitable strategy. Define what may change while a bar is open, what is retained after it closes and whether a marker can appear on an earlier bar. Keep that definition with the test results.

CheckMethod
Live bar vs confirmed barRecord the current bar, close it, reload and compare. An intrabar value can change before confirmation.
Higher-timeframe dataCheck when higher-timeframe values become available and whether confirmed values are used.
Pivots and past markersSeparate the detection bar from the earlier bar where a confirmed pivot is drawn.
Future-data leakageInspect data-request and lookahead settings. A historical chart must not use information unavailable at the decision time.

This is a BSV testing checklist, not a certification of any vendor or catalogue entry. “LuxAlgo repaint” or “BTC signals no repaint” cannot be answered responsibly from the brand name or a screenshot alone; record the exact script, version, settings and data.

What a strategy backtest must record

Separate the plotted indicator from strategy-order simulation. Record the test window, warm-up, transaction costs, assumed fills, slippage, position sizing and exit rules. Check an unseen period and alternative settings; a result fitted to one historical sample can fail elsewhere.

Does a high win rate mean the strategy works?

Win rate is one statistic. Report sample size, payoff sizes, net costs, drawdown, exposure and the definition of a trade. A “profitable TradingView strategy” query should lead to a testable record, not a promise of future returns. The same standard applies to crypto signals, scalping and automated EA systems.
